Avant de se joindre à la Fondation Terry Fox, elle a fait du bénévolat pour de nombreux organismes de bienfaisance dans le domaine des arts et des soins de santé. Denise a publié plusieurs livres pour enfants, en plus d’être écrivaine et chroniqueuse. Son travail a été publié dans le Globe and Mail, le Toronto Star, le Toronto Life et HGTV. Denise vit à Toronto avec son mari, ses deux jeunes enfants et un poisson combattant siamois nommé Celestia.
