Phoenix loves playing with dolls and admiring all kinds of fabrics. But what he loves most of all is dancing. He adores ballet, he dances at powwows, and he twirls and spins around at home. His classmates sometimes tease him because he's different, but his mother and brother are proud of him. With their help, Phoenix learns about Two-Spirit people, or niizh manidoowag, in Anishinaabe culture. He realizes just how special he is.
Drawing on the experience of his own son, Phoenix, Marty Wilson-Trudeau shows us that a loving and caring family can make all the difference.
