Revolutionary Love for Early Childhood Classrooms

In this timely, trailblazing book, three teacher educators show how to create environments that nurture young Black children's brilliance. Their "revolutionary love" approach helps early childhood educators take practical steps to counteract the negative impacts of systemic racism on children's academic, social, and emotional development.

The authors provide powerful ideas to ensure the wellbeing of all children-from creating safe and joyful play spaces to honoring African American Language to integrating Black culture and history into lessons and across the curriculum. By organizing each chapter according to their "Believe-Know-Do" framework, they not only show teachers how to implement ideas, but also why implementing them is critical to the success and happiness of their students.

Kamania Wynter-Hoyte, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Instruction of Teacher Education at University of South Carolina. Her scholarship is anchored in culturally relevant literacies that foster liberation in teacher education and early childhood spaces. She is the co-author of the book entitled, Revolutionary Love: Creating a Culturally Inclusive Literacy Classroom. She teaches culturally relevant pedagogy, literacy methods, and linguistic pluralism courses with an emphasis on countering anti-Blackness and draws from her years of experience as an elementary school teacher in diverse school settings.
