Sometimes, all it takes is a memory to feel at home, no matter where you are.
Aurelia left her home and her beloved grandmother, Abuelita, to move to Canada with her mother. At first, she is delighted with her new neighborhood and its tall trees. She loves her room, which she can paint any color she wants. She is eager to start school and make friends.
But school isn't what she expected. Some classmates make fun of her because she's different, and she's excluded from the playground games. She ends up feeling very lonely. With the help of a blanket Abuelita gave her, and the love Abuelita has for her, Aurelia returns to school with a new perspective and forges a real connection.
Inspired by the author's own experiences, this story offers a touching and child-friendly description of what it is like to experience racism and exclusion, and what it means to make friends.
